What you'll do:
Veoneer is looking for a dynamic individual to join our thermal sensing operations team as the Operations Manager. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for ensuring the effective management and performance of the production and maintenance functions within the manufacturing plant. Within this role, they will be expected to drive the business forward, streamline the operation and champion continuous improvement. This position reports to the Plant Manager.
- General leadership and management of all production and maintenance teams and personnel
- Lead activities of production and maintenance teams by directly performing or through subordinate managers:
- Planning, forecasting, and scheduling
- Ensure production schedules meet customer delivery expectations in a lean manufacturing environment
- Ensure work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, and in compliance to standards
- Drive consistency of operations to ensure the highest levels of part quality & reliability
- Review production and operating results and drive resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance issues to minimize costs and prevent operational delays
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices to root out inefficiencies
- Lead activities of production and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvement in:
- Operating Efficiency and Equipment Availability
- Defects Per Million Units (under a Zero-Defect methodology)
- Scrap/Cost of Poor Quality
- Provide leadership to production and maintenance teams to align activities with operational goals
- Provide direction to team members based on general policies and management guidance
- Interpret and execute policies and procedures that typically affect reporting organizational units
- Accomplish results with supervisors, team members, and/or through experienced salaried employees who exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments
- Becomes actively involved in daily operations only when required to meet schedules or to resolve complex/systemic challenges
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget
- Provide resources and remove obstacles and barriers
- Participate actively on plant leadership & management team
What you'll bring:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field such as engineering, manufacturing, production
- Minimum 6 years of manufacturing experience, ideally with production, maintenance, and/or industrial engineering
- Automotive and electronics manufacturing experience preferred
- Experience with production/manufacturing environments with specific experience working with highly specialized equipment, processes, tooling, techniques, and methods
- Experience with manufacturing planning, forecasting, and scheduling
- Lean manufacturing training and application experience
- Six sigma problem solving and continuous improvement training and application experience
- Preventative risk mitigation knowledge and experience – risk assessments, PFMEAs, control plans
- Manufacturing execution system experience – Leading2Lean preferred
- TS 16949 quality management systems knowledge, and experience preferred
- Well-developed computer and analytical skills
- Microsoft Office computer tools proficiency (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, etc.)
- Ability to solve practical problems using a structured approach
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
- Ability to read and speak English fluently
- Strong leadership and management qualities
- Demonstrated ability to provide direction, including providing advice and influencing personnel to make good decisions
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work activities to satisfy changing requirements
- Demonstrated ability to accurately control costs and work performance
- Demonstrates the willingness to accept responsibility and accountability within a larger team of senior managers
